About Seasons & Limits
Seasons & Limits is a free site run by Hank Rivers. It puts fishing limits, hunting season dates and live water levels for US lakes on one page, without a paywall or an app.
Where the data comes from
Regulations are copied from the state agency's own publications. For Texas that's Texas Parks & Wildlife's Outdoor Annual 2026–27 web pages and PDF. Each table names its source, the regulation year and the date we last checked it. Lake levels come from the U.S. Geological Survey Water Data API and are provisional.
How we check it
Numbers and dates are pulled out by scripts, not typed by hand or written by AI. Before anything is published, a script checks that every value appears word-for-word in the official source, that dates fall inside the regulation year, and that sizes and limits are in sensible ranges. We also compare a sample against a second official document, the TPWD PDF. Anything that fails a check stays hidden until someone reviews it by hand. The plain-English summaries are written by AI using only the checked records. A script then rejects any summary that contains a number not found in those records.
Not legal advice
Regulations change during the year, and agencies can issue emergency rules. Always confirm with the issuing agency before you fish or hunt.
